Vehicle - Maintenance

Once the vehicle has been prepared, regular preventative maintenance is important to ensure smooth operation of the vehicle. I have compiled a list of maintenance items that should be performed throughout the trip at various intervals. I have indicated in the lists below as to which time intervals I am performing these various checks. Of course, some items may need to be checked as part of trouble shooting a specific problem.

Checks - Daily or When Required

These checks really depend on the kind of driving that is being done, but checking tire pressure, oil level and coolant level on a daily basis should be a minimum regardless of driving conditions. Dusty conditions warrant checking and cleaning or replacing the air filter, bad fuel or running out of fuel and sucking up the rust deposits from the bottom of the tank may require a change in fuel filter and quickly checking the brake and clutch fluid levels only takes a few seconds.

  • Tire Pressure
  • Engine Oil Level
  • Coolant Level
  • Brake Fluid Level
  • Clutch Fluid Level
  • Air Filter
  • Fuel Filter(s)
  • Brake Adjustment
Checks - 2500km

In addition to the daily checks:

  • Gearbox Oil Level
  • Transfer Case Oil Level
  • Differential Oil Level
  • Swivel Pin Housing Oil Level
  • Steering Box Oil Level
  • Grease Universals
  • Grease Prop Shafts
  • Grease Trackrod and Draglink Ball Joints
  • Belt Tension
  • Battery Condition
  • Check Universal Bolts
  • Check Engine Mount Bolts
  • General Check for Oil Leaks
  • General Check for Loose Bolts
Checks - 5000km

In addition to the 2500km checks:

  • Oil Change
  • Clean Axle Breathers
  • Ignition Timing
